A PTHP (Packaged Terminal Heat Pump) is a self-contained HVAC unit that provides both cooling and heating using a heat pump system instead of solely relying on electric resistance heating.
How a PTHP Works
In cooling mode, the unit operates like a standard air conditioner, removing heat from the indoor air and rejecting it into the atmosphere.
In heating mode, the heat pump reverses the process, extracting heat from the outside air (even in cold temperatures) and bringing it indoors.
During extreme heating requirements, the electric heat is activated to supply heat in the space.
